When second choice means fourth choice..

"Paul Adams is the only wrist spinner in South Africa with any sort of record but he has been brought in as the 15th member of the squad and I have no doubt he has some way to go to make the starting XI," - Haroon Lorgat

At the start of the series, Boje was picked as the first choice spinner with Adams next in line. After Boje announced his retirement, the selectors somehow realized that Adams wasn't good enough to make it to the starting XI. So they first approached Claude Henderson, who duly rejected their offer citing county commitments. They somehow finally managed to rope in Paul Harris as the new first choice spinner in the squad. But then why is Adams still in the squad, you ask?

I don't think that Paul Adams should even be in the squad...yes, he has taken a few wickets in the past and he was a novelty for a while, but he is not reliable. he does not have the ability or composure, probably because of his bowling style, to "bail" South Africa out if they ever needed him to. Someone, like Paul Harris, who's dream it has been for years to play for South Africa, and who can actually see where he wants to place the ball when he releases it, can bail the Proteas out and he has proved that in the provincial league. Like myself, he went to school at Fish Hoek Senior High School, and if you start your career off in a small little town like that and you then get an opportunity to play for your country, you don't dissappoint! I may just be biased, because he is my wifes cousin, but still, he is a great player and deserves the number one spot!
